Peter F. Hollander : Ancient and modern astrology: a point of view
Recently I read an article about the zodiac. The author, an able astrologer, was discussing he tropical vs. the sidereal zodiac. He seemed to have no doubts: the tropical zodiac was the only right zodiac to use. His argument: he had good results in a lengthy practice with the tropical zodiac. Thus the sidereal zodiac must be wrong.
I strongly decline this argumentation. It's like saying it is impossible to write with a pencil because you had excellent results with a fountain-pen. There are a lot of writing tools possible, each with it's own peculiarities. But they are all capable to do some writing.
Astrological tools
The same goes for astrological tools. Different techniques tell a different part of the story. Some techniques give a better view than others. And some techniques seem to be quite useless. But there are a bunch of effective techniques. We have a lot of possibilities to use in the interpretation of a horoscope.
Selecting the right set of techniques is difficult but important. Every astrologer is using a set of techniques. Sometimes the set has been composed carefully. And sometimes a set from some book or course has been taken for granted.
Old and new techniques
I believe it is important to keep on looking for new and old techniques. To test them and to keep the techniques you like. It will strongly improve your interpretation skills.
Ancient techniques can be combined perfectly with modern astrology. Even if they seem to contradict there's probably only a different point of view. And those different views will give you more information about the chart you're working on.
