John Buzzard : Ayanamsa's compared
The difference between the sidereal zodiac and the tropical zodiac is called an Ayanamsa. Ayanamsa is a term of Vedic astrology. If you know the Ayanamsa, it is easy to change a tropical position into a sidereal position, or the other way around. Add the Ayanamsa to the sidereal position to get the tropical position. And subtract the Ayanamsa from the tropical position to get the sidereal position.
Overview
Sounds easy, but there is still a problem. You need to select an Ayanamsa and there are a lot to choose from. To make things worse: the differences add up to more than 10 degrees.
To help you in selecting an Ayanamsa that suits you, we have created an overview of them. We don't cover all known Ayanamsa's. But we do cover the most important ones. The values are for 1-1-1900. To calculate the Ayanamsa for any other year you need to add 50.25641 seconds of arc for every year after 1900. For every year before 1900, substract 0.25641 seconds of arc from the Ayanamsa.
