Peter F. Hollander: Less objects, more meaning
Less is more
Astrology has proved it's value during thousands of years. In those years, astrology has changed. And that is what you would expect from a real system of knowledge. People learn and knowledge grows.
New planets
Major changes were introduced in 1781 with the discoverty of Uranus. And new discoveries followed: Neptune (1846) and Pluto (1930). All three planets have been added to the astrologers toolkit.
Does this invalidate ancient horoscope delineations? By no means. If astrology would have been invalid without these new planets, it would never have survived several millennia. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are not essential for the horoscope delineation. They give useful information. But it is additional information.
You can still interpret horocopes without them. Just like ancient astrologers always interpreted horoscopes without them.
More objects
The discoveries of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto were real discoveries of real planets. But astrology has been enriched with a lot of discoveries that are less real. Hypothetical planets, asteroids, and planetoid's outside the asteroid belt, like Cheiron. They all have been introduced into astrology.
The tendency seems to be to incorporate more objects into delineation. Why are we supposed to need those objects? What is wrong with our horoscope interpretations if we need additional points?
More meaning
I want to make a stand against thoughtlessly adding cosmic objects to the horoscope. We do not need more objects. Instead we need a better delineation. We need to understand what is really happening in a horoscope. A horoscope delineation can be done with the basic techniques of the ancients. We only need the planets up to Saturn, excluding Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. A horoscope interpretation needs to be possible with this old time basics.
No restrictions
Should you never use new points in a horoscope? I think you can use them, but you should not rely on them. If you know how to handle a horoscope, you will be safe to explore new possibilities. But if you are not comfortable with the basic horoscope, you will only create more confusion by adding new objects.
