Pancharios lived about 200 CE. He used a variant on the Porphyri system with a prespan. But he did not use a fixed forespan of exactly 5 degrees but a forespan that ws the size of one sixth of the corresponding house.
Wilhelm Knappich gives an incorrect date of 200 BCE [Knappich, 1978, p. 15]. In a shared publication with Walter Koch he gives the correct date [Koch/Knappich, 1959, p. 76].
The system was forgotten very quickly. Astrologers that did use a prespan almost invariably used a fixed value of five degrees.
Koch and Knappich regret this. They believe the aproach by Pancharios is a transition to systems with a more natural division of the houses [Koch/Knappich, 1959, p. 77]
Rüdiger Plantiko mentions that this division is actually a division in mundo (based on houses) and not, like Porphyri, based on the ecliptic. [Plantiko, 2004, p. 17].
Calculation
Start with the houses as calculated according to Porphyri
The location is Enschede (52º 13′ N and 6º 54′ E). Date and time November 2, 2016 (Gregorian calendar), 21:17:30 UT. The corresponding sidereal time is 0:35:23,6 and the obliquity E 23° 26′ 13.56586091”.
MC: 9°37′48” Aries
Asc: 3°30’28” Leo
The longitude of houses in the fourth quadrant is 37.959361554145, one sixth of this value is 6.32656025902. Subtract this from the longitude of the cusps 10, 11 and 12 (and from 4, 5 and 6)
The longitude of houses in the first quadrant is 22.040638445854, one sixth of this value is is 3.67343974098. Subtract this from the longitude of the cusps 1, 2 and 3 (and from 7, 8 and 9).
cusp 10 : 9.62989868323 - 6.32656025902 = 3.30333842421 = 3°18'12" Aries cusp 11 : 47.589260237375 - 6.32656025902 = 41.262699978355 = 41°15'46" Taurus cusp 12 : 85.54862179152 - 6.32656025902 = 79.2220615325 = 19°13'19" Gemini cusp 1 : 123.507983345667 - 3.67343974098 = 119.834543604687 = 29°50'04" Cancer cups 2 : 145.548621791521 - 3.67343974098 = 141.875182050541 = 21°52'31" Leo cups 3 : 167.589260237375 - 3.67343974098 = 163.915820496395 = 13°54'57" Virgo
The remaining cusps are in opposition with the calculated cusps.
